About this instrument
The AUDIT-C is the first three questions of the WHO's AUDIT, covering drinking frequency, quantity and binge episodes — the standard quick screen in primary care. A standard drink is about 14g of pure alcohol (a can of beer, a glass of wine, or a shot of spirits). Scoring happens on your device.
The AUDIT-C is the first three questions of the WHO's AUDIT — drinking frequency, typical quantity, and binge frequency — used as a one-minute screen. The full AUDIT adds seven items on consequences and dependence; this site also offers the complete version.
Scoring sums the three items for 0-12. The most-used cutoffs are 4+ for men and 3+ for women, and this page applies the one matching the sex you selected.
A positive result flags a risky pattern, not dependence. Whether it amounts to an alcohol use disorder is a clinical judgement involving tolerance, withdrawal and loss of control.
