About this instrument
The AIS (Athens Insomnia Scale) is built on ICD-10 criteria for insomnia and is widely used in clinics and research. Rate each item by how often it troubled you over the past month — at least three times a week counts. Scoring happens on your device; nothing is uploaded.
The AIS (Athens Insomnia Scale), published by Soldatos and colleagues in 2000, is built on the ICD-10 definition of insomnia. The first five items cover nighttime sleep (induction, night waking, early waking, duration, quality); the last three cover daytime impact (well-being, functioning, sleepiness).
Scoring sums the eight items for a 0-24 total. The most-used screening cutoff is 6 or above, with good sensitivity and specificity for insomnia in validation studies — the bands here follow that convention.
The AIS is a screener, not a diagnosis. Whether your pattern counts as a treatable insomnia disorder depends on duration, frequency and daytime impairment, which a clinician weighs.
