About this instrument
From the public-domain IPIP item pool (Mini-IPIP-20, Donnellan et al.). The Big Five is the mainstream academic model of personality - it describes tendencies, not good or bad.
The Big Five is the dominant academic model of personality: five continuous dimensions - extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional sensitivity and openness. This test uses the Mini-IPIP-20, a public-domain 20-item short form with four items per trait.
Each trait is averaged (1-5 scale) with some items reverse-scored, then normalized to 0-100 for display. Personality has no right answers - high and low are both just descriptions of tendency.
The IPIP item pool is openly maintained by the research community and fully public domain, which makes it one of the few legally clean personality instruments. Unlike commercial typing tests it returns five sliders, not a label.
