About this instrument
PROMIS (Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System) is an NIH-backed measurement system. This 8a short form rates sleep disturbance over the past 7 days, converted to a T-score where 50 is the US population mean and 10 points is one standard deviation.
PROMIS is the NIH-backed national system for patient-reported outcomes, calibrated on large samples and used across clinical research and hospital follow-ups. The Sleep Disturbance 8a short form is its adult sleep measure.
Unlike simple sum scales, PROMIS uses IRT-based scoring: the 8-item raw total (8-40) is reverse-adjusted and looked up in the official conversion table to produce a T-score. T=50 is the US population mean; T≥60 is generally considered clinically meaningful.
This page embeds the official conversion table and shows your T-score directly — comparable to any study or clinic that uses PROMIS.
