About this instrument
The Holland (RIASEC) model is the most widely used framework in career counseling — the O*NET database itself is organized around it. Rate these 48 work activities by whether you'd enjoy doing them, not by how good you'd be. Your result is a three-letter Holland code.
Holland's model sorts interests into six types arranged on a hexagon: adjacent types are compatible (R-I, S-A) while opposite types pull apart (R-S, A-C). Most occupations can be described by a three-letter Holland code.
Scoring: each type sums its 8 items; your three highest types form the code (e.g., ISA, REC). The US O*NET database tags every occupation with Holland codes — you can search it directly with yours.
These items are distinctive for being concrete work activities rather than abstract self-descriptions — part of why this instrument has among the strongest validity records in vocational psychology.
