About this instrument
The SWLS (Diener et al., 1985) is a classic of positive psychology. It doesn't ask about symptoms - just your overall judgment of your life.
The SWLS (Satisfaction With Life Scale, Diener et al., 1985) is among the most cited instruments in positive psychology. It does not measure symptoms - it measures your cognitive judgment of life as a whole.
Scoring sums five items for 5-35. Diener's bands: 5-9 extremely dissatisfied, 10-14 dissatisfied, 15-19 slightly below average, 20-24 average, 25-29 satisfied, 30-35 highly satisfied.
Life satisfaction is not the same as mood - people in hard circumstances can still rate life highly. Retake it periodically and watch the trend rather than fixating on a single number.
